A Pair of George III White-painted Gilded Beechwood Armchairs
A pair of George III white-painted gilded beechwood armchairs (English, c. 1778) by Thomas Chippendale (English, 1718-1779). The chairs have an oval upholstered backrest within a molded frame that is raised on slightly rounded supports. A bow and floral motif decorates the crests. They have slightly serpentine shaped seats and padded scrolling arms. The chairs have circular fluted tapering legs in front, and flared back legs ending in scroll feet. They are finished in white paint and gold accents. The seats, backs and arms are covered in cream-colored silk fabric.
