Description
A PAIR OF PORCELAIN EXOTIC BIRDS (French, early 20th century) attributed to the La Courtille porcelain manufactory, France. The identical modeled birds have long slender tails that point upwards and heads turned to the right, flame shaped crest feathers adorn their heads, and their bodies are painted in shades of orange, yellow, red, black, and pink. Each sits astride a molded white trunk shaped base with applied insects and green tufts of grass. Along the bottom of the base on the side they are marked with two crossed arrows in blue. Similar to Meissen models by J. J. Kandler (1706-1775), the La Courtille factory mark of crossed arrows/troches is even reminiscent of Meissen’s crossed swords mark.
