AN ENGLISH CHINOISERE CHEST ON STAND (English, 18th century) composed out of japanned wood in imitation of Asian lacquer. The chest is decorated with gilt chinoisere designs of buildings and animals in a landscape setting. The two central doors open to reveal multiple interior drawers. The gilt-wood stand has an apron caved with lion head masks on the corners and a central shell design with trailing leaves. It stands on four tapered block legs connected by a cross stretcher with a raised urn and garlands at center.
