Bakhshaish Pictorial Rug
mid 19th century
A Bakhshaish pictorial rug (Persian, Northwestern Iran, mid-19th century) in hues of rose, red, and blues. The rug depicts a primitive magical landscape of rose-colored mountains packed with deer, and “lollipop” trees sprouting from hilltops and flatlands. It is one of a small number of Bakhshaish rugs that share the same landscape elements but differ in color and detail.
