Description
A Chinese export figure group of the “He-He Twins” (Chinese, Qing Dynasty, c. 1700) composed out of glazed porcelain. The He-He Twins (also known as the Hehe Erxian and Laughing Twins) represent harmony and union, they are based after the eighth-century Chan Buddhist monks Hanshan and Shide. Here the two smiling twin figures are dressed in mustard-colored robes. The one on the left holds a lingzhi mushroom and wraps his arm around his twin the right, whose robe has fallen below his shoulders and holds a string of money in both hands.
