Description
A carved figurine of two roosting phoenixes, a mother and child, (Chinese, Sung Dynasty, c. 960-1270) composed out of green jade (nephrite) with inclusions of yellow and brown. The pair are depicted lying next to one another, carved out of a single piece of jade. On the underside are shallowly rendered details, including claws and diminutive feet. The whole is raised on a carved boxwood stand.
