Description
A drinking glass (German, late 19th century) decorated with a painted double layered banding. The large glass has a wide rim trimmed with gilt that slopes into a curved handle with beveled detailing. Sloping outward slightly, the foot is trimmed with a band of notches cut into the glass. Serving as the main decoration is the wide upper band made of two layers of painted glass. The outside layer is frosted and painted with colored birds, mushrooms, glass, and two gnomes. Juxtaposed under that outside layer is an inner layer of golden trees and deer.
