Description
A pill box (Dutch, Schoonhoven, 18th century) made of silver by Adrianus Kuylenburg, in the form of a miniature armoire. A hinged lid rests atop the box, decorated with a scene of a farmer milking a cow outdoors, under some trees. Two cupboard doors are decorated with flowers and sit above three drawers with bale handles and locks. The back of the armoire is decorated with budding flowers on vines, and with the inscription “HE.DAT. / IS.LIEF.” Etched into the bottom of the box are the letters “NB” for Nathalie Bailey (1883-1935) in script. Three marks are stamped into the underside of the lid, a maker’s mark for Adrianus Kuylenburg (“AKB”), a worn city mark for Schoonhoven, and an unidentified date mark of the letter “M” or “W”.
