Tree/Verso Lake Ramapo Valley
Thomas Addison Richards emigrated from England when he was a boy, settling with his family in Georgia. He eventually came to New York, where he took classes at the National Academy of Design, became a full academician and served as the institution's secretary from 1852-1892. Richards traveled around the United States East Coast, making many on-site drawings of nature. He often made steel engravings from his drawings and accompanying essays that were published in numerous travel books.
