A William & Mary "Seaweed Marquetry" Chest on Stand
A William & Mary "seaweed marquetry" chest on stand (English, c. 1690). The chest was designed with two smaller upper drawers above three larger drawers, each centered behind brass pulls with oval panels richly decorated with delicate, curvilinear foliate marquetry. The sides with arched panels are similarly decorated. The top has an elaborate composition incorporating further marquetry panels. The stand en suite is supported by twisted baluster legs joined by a serpentine stretcher. The upper section has one long drawer bearing two pulls above matching marquetry panels. a = chest of drawers b = stand
