A Pair of Early Regence- Style Carved Gilt-wood Armchairs
A PAIR OF EARLY REGENCE- STYLE CARVED GILT-WOOD ARMCHAIRS (French, 19th century) by Jules Allard and Sons, Paris. The chairs have high backs with a shaped crest and molded armrests that are carved with foliage and terminate in bold ram-masks which rest on shaped supports. The shaped seat rail is carved along the sides with stylized shells flanked by foliage. The cabriole legs have carved grotesque masks at the knees and shaped curled toes. The four legs are connected by an x-shaped stretcher. The back and seats are upholstered in 18th century French tapestry with exotic birds, brightly colored flowers and foliage.
