Description
THREE CARVED GILT-WOOD ARMCHAIRS (French, 19th century) in a mid-18th century Venetian style. The chairs have flat cartouche-shaped backs with molded borders carved with stylized foliage at the crest and grotesque masks on the corners. The shaped and molded armrests end in scrolled terminals and have grotesque masks on the upper ends. The armrests sit on shaped scrolled supports carved with foliage. The wide seats are upholstered in velvet. The seat rail is decorated with carved pierced foliage. The cabriole legs are carved with masks at the knees, and end in scroll foliate feet. The legs are connected by an x-shaped stretcher with a fleur-de-lis pendant at center.
