Carved Venetian Giltwood Armchair
A carved Venetian giltwood armchair (Italian, c. 1750) with a large back panel and rectangular seat covered in modern red velvet. The seat back frame is carved on the sides with S-scrolls and pendant foliage surmounted by flambeau urns at the corners, the shaped and molded crest-rail is carved with foliate scrolls and a foliate pendant finial at center. The molded armrests emanate from foliate bosses on the uprights and terminate on S-scroll supports. The chair stands on four C-scroll legs, the front two being more elaborate, which are joined by foliate side stretchers.
