Black and white photograph of a three-masted ship in Newport Harbor. On land in foreground, artist Edward Bannister paints the ship while three boys look on. Image was apparently printed from an earlier print or negative by a person named "WARREN" (see stamp on reverse). Handwritten note on reverse reads: "A Bergner Photograph taken c1887 at Battery Park- Newport, R.I. The Colored artist is Mr Bannister. USS Richmond"
