Description
A black and white photograph depicting the interior of a factory on Goat Island, just prior to redevelopment. During World Wars I and II, Goat Island served as the location of the U.S. Naval Torpedo Station. The interior space shown in the photograph has a high ceiling with a balcony; the walls are made of brick, supported by steel girders running across the width of the ceiling. At ground level, two sets of large machines are visible, with small piles of parts strewn throughout. Panels with dials can be seen on the right wall. Light shines through two tall windows at the back of the space. The photograph was taken from a lower balcony with a metal railing.
