AN OIL ON CANVAS PORTRAIT OF WILLIAM HENRY VANDERBILT (1821-1885) BY JARED BRADLEY FLAGG (1820-1899) (American, dated 1877). The subject is depicted in three-quarter length wearing a black suit with a white shirt and black bow tie. His right hand is on his waist, his left resting on a cane. The work is signed in the lower right corner "Jared B. Flagg. N.A. / 1877." The giltwood frame is accented with a carved oak-leaf design.
