Description
A CEILING PAINTING OF THE FOUR SEASONS (French, c. 1892) from the studios of Jules Allard et ses Fils, Paris, installed on the ceiling of the Morning Room at The Breakers. Octagonal in shape, the canvas depicts the four seasons as winged women in classical robes seated on thrones and attended by putti. Between the seasons are half-moon scenes of swans on either side of a classical urn bearing flowers. All surround a central medallion.
