Description
A FAIENCE BOWL (French, 1871-1875) by Gien in a Renaissance Fond Blanc pattern. The bowl has a slightly flared upper lip, with a brown band around the inside edge. The exterior is decorated with a motif of exotic creatures, with a central cartouche scene of a cherub riding a sea monster. There is banded decoration around the top, bottom of the bowl, and around the ring base. The glazed decoration is done in shades of blue, green, and gold on a white ground. The underside is marked with the Gien maker’s mark of a castle with a banner beneath reading "GIEN."
