Description
An engraving entitled "Going to Cover" (or "L'entrée du Bois") (English, dated 1761) by Thomas Burford (English, c. 1710-1779), after a painting by James Seymour (English, 1702-1752). The engraving depicts the onset of a fox hunting party. In the foreground an older man sits on horseback surrounded by a pack of white and brown spotted hunting dogs, the man is accompanied by four other men on horseback galloping into the forest. The background depicts rolling hills below a grey cloud-swept sky. Below the image is printed "J Seymour Pinx.t Going to Cover. L'entrée du Bois T. Burford Fecit." The print is housed in a black painted wood frame with a carved gold-leaf interior border.
