Description
An engraved portrait titled "Anne Hunter" (French, c. 1800) by an unknown artist, after a 1797 painted miniature. The subject, Anne Hunter de Palezieux-Falconnet (1766-1859), is depicted at bust length, facing forward. Her hair is worn high and tied with a ribbon. She wears a low-cut diaphanous empire waist gown. Anne Hunter was the daughter of William and Deborah Hunter, and the sister of Sen. William Hunter, the former owner of Hunter House. The engraving is framed by an oval surround with a dark green border, inscribed on the mat below her image is "ANNE HUNTER / née le Avril 1766, à Newport (Rhode Island ) / marriéé en 1790 / à Jean-Louis-THÉODORE DE PALÉZIEUX-FALCONNET / morte à Paris, le 21 Dècembre 1859 / (Cette miniature a été peinte en 1797)."
