Description
A set of eight Louis XVI style ormolu wall sconces (French, 19th century) installed in Mr. Vanderbilt’s bedroom on the 2nd floor of The Breakers. Each sconce has a three-sided term shaped backplate surmounted by urns with pineapple finials and draped swags of bound laurel leaves. The backplates support two S-shaped arms terminating in circular foliate drip pans and vase shaped candle nozzles chiseled with laurel swags. The sconces are fitted for both gas and electricity.
