Description
A pair of letter boxes (American, 19th century) by Asprey, London. The brass-bound, bleached oak cabinets each have double cupboard doors, which open to reveal interior pigeonholes of varying sizes and a long drawer with a drop handle. An oblong brass plate on the left side of the drawer is inscribed “UNANSWERED” and on the right side “ANSWERED.” A brass plate attached to the inside top of the drawer is inscribed “THE BOND ST STATIONARY CABINET / REGISTERED 4572 / ASPREY & SON. 166 NEW BOND ST LONDON.” Original to Chateau-sur-Mer.
