Description
A pair of shield-shaped Chinese export vases (Chinese, c. 1780, Qing Dynasty). The sides of the vases are molded with garlands of blue bellflowers under oval medallions with armorial shields in blue and ermine drapery against a white ground. The shields bear traces of the gilt monograms “JAH” on one side and “DVW” on the other. Along the necks of the vases are iron-red, blue, and gold ribbon accents which match the colors of the leaves along the feet. The domed covers are decorated with bands of blue and gold laurel leaves around a central artichoke finial.
