Description
A BROUGHAM COUPE D'ORSAY CARRIAGE (French, 19th century) by Million, Guiet & Co. of Paris, model number 5591. It is painted in Vanderbilt livery, and the interior is lined with buttoned maroon silk with side-by-side seating for two passengers. It is fitted with sliding front and side windows, all with maroon silk roller blinds. The front panel has a lidded luggage compartment and wood ashtrays. Walnut attachments incorporate a glass holder and pipe rack. The door handles, window pulls and blind fittings are made of ivory. It is mounted at both the front and rear on C-springs with leather supporting straps and elliptical springs on both axles. It has iron-tired wheels with metal hugs and stamped with the maker's trademark. The coachman's seat is upholstered in plum-colored velvet and has a compartment beneath the seat.
