Description
A WALNUT OCCASIONAL TABLE (French, 19th century) by the design firm Jules Allard and Sons. Done in the 17th century Italian taste, the rectangular table top is veneered with quartered timber within a border of strap-work and florets. The edge of the table is gadrooned and has raised female faces carved at center along the short ends. A central drawer is fitted with gilt-metal drop handles. The table is decorated with highlights of gilding. The table stands on columnar end supports, either end has three column supports, the outer columns are inlaid with entwined berried foliage. These supports stand on a trestle base ending in scroll toes carved with foliage and are connected by a flat stretcher.
