Description
A PAIR OF LOUIS XV STYLE CARVED WALNUT COMMODES (French, late19th century) from the workshop of Jules Allard et ses Fils. Each is fitted with a colored marble top. Below the top is a drawer with a round flower head pull, beneath the drawer is a central cabinet with carved flower head medallions decorating the front corners. They each stand on four high cabriole legs that end in whorl feet.
There are some slight variations between the two commodes. PSNC.12.1a-b has shells carved on its knees and central foliate designs carved on its shaped apron. PSNC.12.2a-b has a gilded bronze mount surrounding the key opening of the cabinet door, foliate designs carved on its knees, and varying central foliate and shell designs carved into its shaped apron.
