Correspondence from Gwendolen King Armstrong (Mrs. E. M. Armstrong) to her mother Ella Rives King (Mrs. David King.) This letter was sent during a period of mourning, as evidenced by the black border on the stationary, after the passing of Ella Rives King's mother Matilda Antonia Barclay Rives (1829-1888). In the letter a twelve year old Gwendolen asks her mother if she can "wear mourning for dear Grandmama" and hopes she will not miss the black paper she took off her table to write this letter.
