Correspondence from Gwendolen King Armstrong (Mrs. E. M. Armstrong) to her mother Ella Rives King (Mrs. David King.) In the letter Gwendolen mentions going to a lecture given by [Cornelius] Flam[m]arion, a French astronomer. Flammarion was a proponent of the "canals of Mars" theory, as well a believer in psychic phenomena, reincarnation and extraterrestrial life, though he dismissed some of the more famous spiritist phenomena such as mediums and ectoplasm.
