Description
Correspondence to Gwendolen King Armstrong (Mrs. E. M. Armstrong) from her mother Ella Rives King (Mrs. David King). The letter mentions the wife of Whitney Warren, an American Beaux-Arts architect. Warren founded one of the most prolific and successful architectural practices in America, Warren & Wetmore, and was responsible for design of Grand Central Terminal and the Biltmore Hotel. His wife, Charlotte Augusta Tooker, was the eldest daughter of prominent New York lawyer, and a member of Mrs. Astor's Four Hundred. Ella writes that Charlotte is in trouble with the Custom House in Paris and that she was denounced by German spies. Ella also attended a lecture by Warren himself.
