Description
A George I walnut wing chair (English, c. 1720). The chair has a high rectangular back, scrolling arms below wings of serpentine form, and a seat frame with a bow front. The back, arms, seat, and cushion are upholstered in a later cream ground gros point needlework decorated with stylized fruiting vines. The chair is raised on four legs, the front cabriole legs are finely carved with acanthus leaves and pendants of chain husk centering on scrolled brackets, they end in ball and claw feet, the rear splayed back legs end in modified ‘Drake’ form feet.
